PGI
The European label for foods with a link to a place, where at least one stage of making happens there.
Also: Protected Geographical Indication, IGP, g.g.A.
A Protected Geographical Indication is a European Union label for foods whose quality or reputation is linked to a place. It is looser than a PDO: at least one stage of production, processing or preparation must happen in the named area, but the milk may come from elsewhere. Cheeses with PGI status include Emmental de Savoie, Tomme de Savoie, Slovenská bryndza, Oravský korbáčik and Gouda Holland, which must be made in the Netherlands from Dutch milk but not in one town. The label is IGP in French, Italian and Spanish and g.g.A. in German.
