How complete is EveryCheese?

Nobody has a full list of the world's cheeses. Many are made on a single farm, many have a dozen names, and many village cheeses were never written down. So EveryCheese shows its working.

Where the list comes from

Every item that Wikidata files under cheese and that has an English Wikipedia article; every article in Wikipedia's cheese categories, by country and by milk; the cheeses linked from Wikipedia's lists of cheeses; and our own list of the cheeses each region is known for, so that small traditions are not crowded out by large ones.

Country overviews written: 63 of 108. Photos: 302 of 367 cheeses have a free-licence photo; the rest show a drawing until one is found. Also written by hand: 72 dishes, 101 cheese towns and markets, 64 days and 182 concepts.

New pages are written every day, best documented first. Wikidata and Wikipedia are re-read every week for cheeses added since.

What is missing

Cheeses with no English Wikipedia article are not here yet. That leaves out a great many farm and village cheeses, and it favours the famous European names. By region so far: Europe 294, North America 20, Latin America and the Caribbean 17, Middle East 11, South Asia 10, North Africa 5, East Asia 4, Sub-Saharan Africa 2, Southeast Asia 2, Central Asia and the Caucasus 1, Oceania 1.
